Who it is for

Built for genuine beginners.

Karate Ready is the right start for kids 7+, teens, adults and families who have never trained, or who are returning after years away. Everyone begins here, regardless of age or goal.

Why not a casual free trial?

One free class teaches you nothing real.

A single drop-in class cannot show you what training here is actually like, and it cannot show us whether the dojo is right for you. Karate Ready gives both sides three weeks to find out honestly, then a Week 4 readiness check. No long-term lock-in either way.

What happens after

Continue into a term, or walk away.

If it is a fit, you move into a 10-week term with a built-in mutual gate. If not, you walk away with what you have learned.

"Sensei Sam is an incredible teacher and extremely knowledgeable of his art. If you are looking for authentic Karate-Do in the Tweed or Southern Gold Coast, then this is the place to train."

"Having trained in martial arts in my 20s and 30s, turning 60 this year saw me searching for a new martial art for my physical and mental wellbeing. I found Sensei Sam teaching Goju Ryu. The other students made me very welcome, and today after two months of training I passed my first grading."

"Sensei Sam is fantastic. My daughter has done karate with him since she was 6 and a half and has grown so much, and my 5 and a half year old son has now joined in. It has helped with focus. I wanted to work on confidence and assertiveness with my daughter, and Sensei happily incorporated more of both into each session."

Common questions

What people ask before booking.

What is Karate Ready? +
Karate Ready is a structured 3-week beginner pathway into traditional Goju Ryu karate. Seven in-dojo sessions across three weeks, plus online support between sessions, plus a Week 4 readiness check. It is $99 for a single starter, or $90 each for two or more family members starting together.
Why not just offer a free class? +
A single drop-in class cannot show you what training here is actually like, and it cannot show us whether the dojo is right for you. Three weeks gives both sides time to find out honestly, then a readiness check, then a decision. No long-term lock-in either way.
Who is Karate Ready for? +
Kids 7 and over, teens 13 to 18, adults 35 and up, and families. Each age tier trains in its own room with content scaled for the body in front of it. Returning practitioners after a long break also start here, by design.
What happens after Week 4? +
You choose: continue into a 10-week term package (Basic $200, Advanced $300, or Accelerate $450), or walk away with what you have learned. We would rather you find out properly than stay because you felt you had to. A mutual gate is built into every term, so either side can step away cleanly later too.
Do I need a uniform or equipment? +
No. Comfortable clothes you can move in, no jewellery, a water bottle, and a willingness to try. We train in bare feet. If you continue into a term, you can purchase a gi through the dojo at that point.
What if I am unfit, returning after years away, or older than 35? +
Adult Karate Ready is built for the body you have today, not the body you wish you had. Junbi Undo mobility work warms up what needs warming up. Sanchin breathing builds capacity without strain. Most adults who start with us have not trained in years.
